Supporting Sustainable Substitution of Coca Crops

With a strategy that combines local knowledge and skills, with productive innovations and access to markets, 1,967 people who substituted coca crops have become engines of peace and sustainable development in their territories.

In agreement with the United Nations Multidonor Fund to Sustain Peace, PASO Colombia designed and implemented a contingency plan in support of coca eradication families , as a bridge aid between phases of the National Program for the Substitution of Illicit Use Crops - NIBP.

With a strategy that combines knowledge and skills present in each territory, with productive innovations and access to markets, 1,967 people received remuneration in exchange for their participation in the strengthening of productive and commercial networks that will make the development of alternative ventures more sustainable. This intervention strengthened the families' commitment to the substitution of illicit crops and empowered them to become engines of sustainable development in their territories.

Thanks to the gender approach with which it was developed, the Contingency Plan achieved the involvement of 80% of women, with whom we also worked to promote their financial autonomy and their participation as leaders in social and productive organizations.

The PNIS is a program developed by the national government as part of the Final Agreement for the End of the Conflict and the Construction of a Stable and Lasting Peace, in which the solution to the problem of illicit drugs is contemplated as a fundamental part of the construction of peace in Colombia.
